A linea - en s'écartant de la ligne

A linea - En s’écartant de la ligne (A LINEA - Straying from the line) is a video/music creation resulting from a collaboration with videographer Benoît Voarick and singer Audrey Pevrier. Commissioned by the Joseph Déchelette Museum in Roanne for the exhibition “Au fil du trait” (“Along the Line”), this creation aims to cast a new light on the Magdalenian engravings discovered in the gorges of the Loire.

This work is presented at the Joseph Déchelette Museum from May 15 to September 20, 2026.

Following the rustlings, hissings, quiverings, whispers, and creakings, we invite you to immerse yourself in a soundscape that crinkles, crackles, and fizzes, where you can make out the lapping of water, the wind whispering or moaning, perceive a distant song brushing against silence, imagine the sketch of footsteps…

Captured around the Saut du Perron site, the images of the forest, of light filtering through the foliage, of multi-hued lichens, of minerals, and of reflections upon the Loire, recreate the setting for these fragments of engraved schist.

At the heart of a gesture that reflects his observation of an environment, his desire to represent, illustrate, and pass it down, the Magdalenian man—artist and engraver—inspires us, along the line.

Continuing the engraving, retracing the segment, fragmenting it, respecting its trace, and then straying from the line, multiplying the strokes, layering them, questioning the form, the contours, the curve, bringing identifiable representation into dialogue with the abstract—digital tools allow us to accompany this art of the palimpsest and to conceive this form as a resonance with neither beginning nor end.
